A PAINTING IS LIKE A JOURNEY WITH AN UNKNOWN DESTINATION
LIKE SITTING ALONE IN A FIELD OR A QUIET ROOM
YOUR MIND WONDERING, TAKING YOU PLACES AT RANDOM
EXPLORING MY CONSCIOUSNESS, I PUT PAINT TO CANVAS
GUIDED BY MY SENSE OF STYLE, COLOR AND BALANCE
I FLOW
NOT ALWAYS KNOWING WHERE I'M GOING
BUT KNOWING WHEN I'VE ARRIVED
- JOHNNIE SANDERS
Johnnie Sanders is an abstract artist based in the Wrigley neighborhood of Long Beach, California. He specializes in creating large abstract acrylic paintings with bold colors and expressive designs that are midcentury inspired. Born in Berkeley, California, Johnnie grew up in the vibrant and culturally diverse Bay Area, which greatly influenced his artistic vision.
He pursued his passion for art at the Academy of Art University, where he specialized in new media. This education provided him with a solid foundation in contemporary art techniques and digital processes.
Additionally, Johnnie expanded his skill set by taking architecture classes at Long Beach City College and Los Angeles Harbor College, further enhancing his understanding of spatial dynamics and structural elements in his work.
Johnnie's creative journey led him to New Orleans, where he designed and opened the 1801 Spain gallery. This gallery showcased not only his artwork but also his interior design, creating a space where art and architecture seamlessly blend.
Johnnie’s paintings are known for their dynamic compositions
and the ability to transform spaces with their presence.
Johnnie explores his creativity in several ways, including building vintage motorcycles, approaching it as a sculpture, exercising scale, balance, and restraint. One of his recent motorcycle projects was featured in the popular UK-based Greasy Culture Magazine issue 81.
